What are bullet proof windows made of?

Bulletproof windows are made of a sophisticated composite of several different materials, designed to combine clarity with extreme impact resistance. The primary ingredients are usually layers of tempered glass and various plastics like polycarbonate, acrylic, or polyvinyl butyral (PVB). The construction is a 'sandwich' where layers of hard glass alternate with layers of tough, flexible plastic. The glass provides the initial hardness to flatten the bullet and dissipate its energy, while the plastic interlayers provide the resilience needed to hold the structure together and absorb the shock. One of the most effective modern materials is glass-clad polycarbonate, which uses a polycarbonate core for its incredible strength and light weight, surrounded by outer layers of glass for scratch resistance and durability. Some high-end versions also use specialized resins and bonding agents to ensure the layers never delaminate. The result is a window that looks like normal glass but can withstand multiple high-velocity impacts. This combination of materials allows the window to remain clear for visibility while providing a nearly impenetrable barrier against ballistic threats.
