Does shatter proof film stop break-ins?
Shatter-proof film does not technically 'stop' a determined burglar, but it is one of the best tools for 'denying' and 'delaying' a break-in. Most burglaries are crimes of opportunity that rely on the ability to quickly break a window and enter the premises. When a window is treated with high-quality shatter-proof film, it becomes much harder to breach. An intruder who expected the glass to shatter and fall away will instead find a tough, resilient barrier that stays in the frame even after multiple hits with a hammer or brick. This delay is often enough to trigger an alarm and convince the burglar to move on to an easier target. To be truly effective at stopping break-ins, the film should be installed with an attachment system that anchors it to the window frame. Without this, a very strong impact could potentially push the entire sheet of filmed glass out of the frame. When properly installed, shatter-proof film turns a 2-second break-in into a 2-minute ordeal, which is usually more than enough time to prevent the crime from being successful.
