How much are security doors?

Security door pricing varies widely based on the material, construction quality, ballistic rating (if any), size, and whether the door is a standard off-the-shelf unit or a custom fabrication. At the entry level, basic steel security doors with a deadbolt lock and minimal reinforcement — the type commonly sold at home improvement retailers — range from $300 to $800 for the door unit alone, not including installation. These provide improved resistance over hollow-core doors but are not rated for forced entry by determined attackers. Mid-range commercial-grade steel security doors with multi-point locking systems, reinforced frames, and physical security ratings typically cost $1,500 to $5,000 per unit installed, depending on size and specification. High-security doors rated for burglar resistance to standards such as UL 437 or European EN 1627 classes — designed to resist sustained attack by tools — range from $3,000 to $15,000 installed. Ballistic-rated security doors designed to meet UL 752 standards for bullet resistance start at approximately $5,000 to $10,000 for handgun-rated (Level 1–3) units and can reach $20,000 to $50,000 or more for rifle-rated assemblies with reinforced frames and ballistic glazing panels. Custom panic room or safe room doors fabricated to specific security specifications by specialty manufacturers are priced on a project basis and can significantly exceed standard catalog pricing. Installation labor, frame reinforcement, and hardware are additional costs in all categories.
